Green Zone: Distrito protegido (DVD Full)

Imposible no empezar a hablar de esta película sin hacer referencia a dos estrenos recientes que ya han pasado por Pochoclos. Primero, claro, tenemos que mencionar a Redacted, otra película norteamericana ambientada en tiempos de la invasión a Iraq. No vamos a volver a repasar todas las producciones basadas en la tragedia (que ya son más de una decena), pero no puede dejar de mencionarse cómo la creatividad de algunos cineastas parece haberse estancado en la tierra que supo dominar Saddam Hussein.

Otro filme que podemos relacionar con el estreno que nos convoca es La isla siniestra, no por su trama, sino por el hecho de suponer una nueva propuesta de una fructífera alianza entre un director (en el caso citado, Martin Scorsese) y un actor (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Green Zone: Distrito protegido es una película que transcurre durante la invasión estadounidense a Iraq y que tiene como principal responsable a la dupla formada por el director Paul Greengrass y al actor Matt Damon, quienes coincidieron en las últimas dos versiones de la saga Bourne.

¿A qué se refiere la Green Zone (Zona Verde) del título? A la zona (supuestamente) más segura de Bagdad tras la invasión de 2003, aquella que está protegida y custodiada por Estados Unidos y sus aliados y que supone el mayor centro de presencia occidental en el país.

Damon interpreta al subteniente Roy Miller, quien dirige a un equipo de inspectores con la misión de encontrar las famosas armas de destrucción masiva denunciadas por el gobierno estadounidense, las cuales estarían ocultas en el desierto.

En su búsqueda, Miller debe evitar numerosas trampas en el camino mientras advierte que allí no hay mortíferas armas químicas, sino un complejo plan que amenaza la estabilidad de la nación. El subteniente tendrá que evitar a los múltiples espías y agentes con intenciones contradictorias para hallar la verdad oculta.

Greengrass intentó despegarse de esta tendencia de películas sobre la guerra de Oriente Medio y la invasión norteamericana. “No es una película acerca de la guerra de Iraq. Es un thriller que transcurre en Iraq, que es algo muy diferente”, aseguró en declaraciones recogidas por LaHiguera.net. Cabe destacar que el cineasta también ha dirigido Vuelo 93, un filme sobre el vuelo en el que los pasajeros y la tripulación enfrentaron a los secuestradores de un avión el 11 de septiembre de 2001, la fecha que marcó la historia reciente y que desembocaría en la mencionada invasión al territorio iraquí.

Algunos críticos, como Mark Dinning (Empire), han visto en Green Zone: Distrito protegido una continuación de Bourne pero “más épica” y, gracias a su “atinado trasfondo político, más provocativa”. En la recopilación realizada por FilmAffinity.com también puede leerse que el filme es “convincentemente realista”, “enérgico” y “frenético”.

Critics Cinema, en cambio, afirma que la comparación entre Bourne y Green Zone obedece sólo a motivos comerciales y de promoción, ya que considera que ambas propuestas presentan “enormes diferencias temáticas, de estilo y de propósito”. Esta reseña resalta el “gran elemento político” del guión, con críticas a las motivaciones de la guerra en Iraq.
